In this paper, we present the strategies developed for the management of tourism with Amazon River dolphins (Inia geoffrensis) at the Anavilhanas National Park, Amazonas, Brazil. Using diagnostic planning and participative management tools among the actors related to local tourism, rules for the minimum structure and location of the enterprise were elaborated and developed related to where the interactions with the dolphins take place and to how the way of the visitors interact with the animals should be developed. These guidelines significantly reduce the risks of accidents and increase the benefits of tourism with Amazon River dolphins at the Anavilhanas National Park and can support the development of future projects and public policies aimed at the management of public contact with animals in other protected areas.
