Abstract

Information about predatory encounters is important for understanding predator-prey interactions and, consequently, for understanding the natural history of the species involved. In this study we report the first event of attempted predation by Oxybelis aeneus sensu lato on Kentropyx calcarata describing its behavior and comparing it with other reports of snake predation and lizard defensive behavior. We recorded the predation event in an area shaded by cashew trees in the Atlantic Forest of the Reserva Biológica Guaribas, Mamanguape, state of Paraíba, Northeastern Brazil.

Graduated in Biological Sciences (Bachelor) from the State University of Paraíba (2018), Master in Animal Biology (2020) and Doctoral Student in Genetics and Molecular Biology both from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He is currently pursuing a degree in Biological Sciences at Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul, and a specialization in Management of Environmental Resources in the Semiarid Region (IFPB) focused on environmental education. It integrates studies in ecology (trophic and spatial), niche modeling, population genetics and microbiota, aiming to understand ecological and evolutionary patterns of vertebrate diversity, with emphasis on lizards (Kentropyx calcarata) and mammals (Genus: Procyon), and invertebrates, with emphasis on insects (Corotoca melantho and meliponines). In the field of education, he is interested in environmental education, environmental discourse and the dissemination of science in society.
