Instructions
The Boletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi – Ciências Naturais publishes scholarly papers in the fields of Organismal Biology, including Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Systematics, Biogeography, Evolution, Ecology, Behavior, Comparative Anatomy, and Conservation Biology, as well as in Geology and in the study of the Theory, History, and Philosophy of the Natural Sciences. Submissions of natural history museum collection catalogues, studies on the history of such institutions, and works on the lives and contributions of people associated with them are also welcome.
For its regular volumes, the Boletim accepts contributions written in English in the following sections:
Article – Research papers of up to 50 published pages.
Monograph – Research papers of 51 or more published pages, with no page limit. Long and extensively illustrated works, including monographs reporting the results of doctoral dissertations and major taxonomic revisions, are particularly welcome.
Letter to the Editor – Replies to papers published in the Boletim or comments on the journal and its editorial work. No page limit.
Viewpoint – Presentation of the author's perspective on a topic in the Natural Sciences. No page limit.
Book Review – Submissions reviewing works in any field of the Natural Sciences are welcome. The books reviewed will generally be recent publications, although this is not mandatory. No page limit.
Interview – Scholarly interviews with prominent researchers in the Natural Sciences, preceded by a brief introduction to the subject and a biographical note on the interviewee. It is recommended that the interview be recorded on video and that the recording be submitted for publication simultaneously with the text. No page limit.
Obituary – No page limit.

The editorial board of the Boletim also encourages the submission of proposals for special thematic volumes in the Natural Sciences. Special volumes may be Festschriften, may consist of proceedings comprising full papers presented at academic meetings, or they may comprise original articles addressing a common general theme (for example, different aspects of the biology of a particular taxon, or articles offering different perspectives on the life and work of a biographical subject). Those interested in proposing a theme for a special volume and serving as its editor should write to the Editor-in-Chief explaining the idea.
