Diaemus youngii is a hematophagous bat widely distributed in the Neotropics. However, it is considered rare, and there are few records in Brazil. Consequently, there is little information on its biology, natural history, and role in the epidemiology of zoonotic diseases. We report the first record of D. youngii in the state of Ceará, based on a specimen captured in Furnas do Furnalhão, Araticum district, municipality of Ubajara. This specimen was collected during rabies surveillance activities in 2016 and remained in an educational collection until its recent donation to the Museu de História Natural do Ceará Professor Dias da Rocha. In addition to expanding the known distribution of the species, this record highlights the importance of integrating zoonotic disease surveillance and biological collections to increase knowledge of species diversity and distribution.
