Abstract

The use of wood anatomy techniques has been widely employed to identify wood in different contexts in tropical regions. Vegetation-based structures preserved in Holocene sediments were collected from soundings in the Marapanim River estuary. The anatomical characteristics of the analyzed samples were compared with the wood collection of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and identified as Rhizophora mangle L. (Rhizophoraceae).
